July 06, 2012State of Nevada Director of Administration Jeff Mohlenkamp today announced the appointment of Steve Weinberger to the position of Administrator for the Division of Internal Audits, effective Friday, July 6, 2012. Weinberger has been serving as Interim Administrator since March 2012.
“Over the last four months, Steve has demonstrated outstanding leadership for the Internal Audits Division,” said Mohlenkamp.” He has solid knowledge of State management and operations as well as an extensive auditing background. I am confident he will move the Division forward with enhanced methods to improve efficiency, effectiveness and compliance in Executive Branch agencies.”
A graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno with a degree in Accounting, Weinberger is also a Certified Public Accountant. He began his career with the State of Nevada in 1988 as a Senior Agent for the State Gaming Control Board, Audit Division. He was promoted to Supervisor for the Tax and License Division in 2000 where he was in charge of all fiscal procedures, analyzing the accuracy of reported monthly gaming revenue and reviewing the annual Standard Financial Statements, among other duties.
In 2008 he joined the Division of Internal Audits as Financial Manager. In this position he was responsible for maintaining and updating State of Nevada Uniform System of Internal Accounting and Administrative Controls, training state agencies on internal controls, and supervising the Post Review section. He also performed special projects as assigned including performance audits requested by the Executive Branch Audit Committee, reviews requested by the Office of the Governor, and follow-ups on Legislative Counsel Bureau audit findings.
In his position as Administrator for the Division of Internal Audits, Weinberger will be overseeing the auditing of executive branch agencies as well as the development of the Division’s audit plan, policies and procedures. He will be responsible for staff who train, review and report to state agencies regarding compliance with State and federal laws, regulations, and internal controls. Weinberger will ensure audits are done in accordance with the audit plan, policies, procedures, and the statutorily mandated Internal Auditor Standards. He will also present audit results to the Executive Branch Audit Committee.
